How to Create a Teacher Page
...with a Lesson Plan Link
August 29, 2006
Use a Teacher Page to introduce yourself and showcase activities in your classroom. A Teacher Page can be published alone, or lesson plans and other related activities and articles can be incorporated into the page with a hyperlink.
To create a Teacher Page with a Lesson Plan or other related page, you will create a static Teacher Page and then create other expired articles within your Teacher Page.
Follow these easy steps:
- Select "Create Article"
- Option 1 to insert a picture(s) - Browse to insert a picture(s), and SOCS will automatically size the picture(s)
- Continue Article Editor
- Headline - Teacher Name
- Remove Byline
- Write article - Include pictures, personal information,
teaching experience and credentials, related links, etc
- Option 2 to insert a picture(s) - Go to the tool bar, select Insert and choose Local Image from the drop-down box.
- Remove feedback from the article if feedback is turned on
- Fill in the publish begin date
- Make the publish end date "none" (article will stay on the site until you remove it)
- Approve the article
- Assign article to appropriate Section
- Submit article
To add a Lesson Plan to the Teacher Page, continue with Step 2
- Select "Create Article"
- Continue Article Editor
- Headline - this can just be "Lesson Plan", or it can be the name of the course
- Remove Byline
- Create your lesson plan in the same way you create articles - The lesson plan can be a table or text. FES has a lesson plan template you can use - just ask Client Relations
- Remove Feedback
- Expire the article (make the publish begin and end dates in the past so the article does not appear as a separate article)
- Approve the article
- Assign article to appropriate Section
- Submit the article
Step 3 - Link Lesson Plan to Teacher Page
- Go to the Archives Section on the front page and search for your Lesson Plan article (use the headline as the Keywords).
- View the article
- Highlight the URL in the address line of the browser and copy it (edit and copy or use the Ctrl C keys)
- Return to Central Services, select Search Article from the Editor menu and locate your Teacher Page article
- Choose Edit Article
- Place the cursor where you want your lesson plan to appear in the article
- Click on the Hyperlink icon on the advanced tool bar and the Insert Hyperlink screen will appear
- In the Text to display field, type Lesson Plan (or other title)
- From the Target Frame drop-down list, choose New Window
- In the Address field, remove any partial URL and then paste the URL from the Lesson Plan article (using Ctrl V keys).
-
NOTE: For Expanded View option (without template framing) add this step: Edit the URL by typing "EXP" behind "ART". Example: http://socsdemo.fes.org/vnews/display.v/ARTEXP/2005/06/10/42adb17c1470e
- Preview the article to make sure the Lesson Plan link goes to your Lesson Plan.
- Submit the article
